A live performance of works from Deena T. Grossman’s much-anticipated new portrait album, this concert features the World Premiere of Davening, featuring Zach Galatis, Amanda Grimm, and David Eby, alongside the “brilliant, haunting, and beautiful” (Oregon ArtsWatch) work for six flutes (including piccolo, alto and bass) Thrice Burned Forest. The premiere of Davening is the first in a series of unique inspirational events at Congregation Beth Israel celebrating the legacy of Cantor Ida Rae Cahana in her last year serving as Cantor. Grossman showcases her signature balance of cultural and natural references to resplendent effect in this lush and melodic music, touching on themes of cyclical connection, deep time, death and renewal, intergenerational sharing, and sense of place.
